A final (and hopefully a Win32-build) will come as soon as we feel like it. :) There are a lot of things we want to Bent S.http://www.blogger.com/profile/08453309224675554661noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4464958857904281307.post-89220783151052603702007-08-04T21:34:00.000+02:002007-08-04T21:41:24.357+02:00It is doneThe demo has been delivered. Finally we can get some rest and enjoy the rest of Assembly 2007. It has been a long and hard road, but the demo is now delivered and it is up to you to tell us what you think about it. :)There are some parts that could have needed much more work, and there are others that we are really satisfied with, but all in all -- we are happy! :)This has been our first Xbox360 Bent S.http://www.blogger.com/profile/08453309224675554661noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4464958857904281307.post-39165646477809878802007-08-04T04:40:00.000+02:002007-08-04T04:46:19.643+02:00Deadlines are for suckersA deadline is one thing. An "update deadline", on the other hand, is a completely different beast. The time is now 05:42 on saturday morning, and in a few hours (12:00 Finnish time), we have to deliver the demo for the jury showing. That means that it will have to be enjoyable (and runnable!) by that time.Neither of us slept this passing evening, and we are all feeling rather tired.Yesterday we Bent S.http://www.blogger.com/profile/08453309224675554661noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4464958857904281307.post-7915540426424058102007-08-02T12:55:00.000+02:002007-08-02T13:20:35.937+02:00Arrived at AssemblyAfter a day of travelling, we finally arrived at Hartwall Areena in Helsinki, where Assembly 2007 is being held. We have been trying to code at the airport in Oslo, at several eating establishments in Stockholm and at the ferry from Stockholm to Helsinki.Garble and Concrete working on their mobile demo. The latter proved to be a bit of a challenge, since finnish people apparently love their Bent S.http://www.blogger.com/profile/08453309224675554661noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4464958857904281307.post-59735428895950858622007-07-29T16:35:00.001+02:002007-07-29T16:43:21.174+02:00CPU and GPUWell, the xbox 360 gpu is pretty fast. Good. But the cpu is incredibly slow! That's really frustrating. We should probably have multithreaded everything and used shaders with vertex textures etc. Unfortunately we haven't had any luck with threading, and we've had some problems setting up vertex textures, it's too time-consuming to code the effects that way. That's all we have time to write at the svokhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17097653973170055477noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4464958857904281307.post-55151834729971029962007-07-24T11:37:00.001+02:002007-07-24T11:46:27.146+02:00Things we've learned (the hard way)The deadline (3rd of August) is approaching a bit too fast for our liking. We have to admit that we thought this would be easier than it turned out to be. For other people looking into doing XNA stuff we have learned a few things with regards to the loading (and animation) of 3D objects, so here is a short list of the things we've learned so far:When using Maya, all joints of a skeleton/rig needsBent S.http://www.blogger.com/profile/08453309224675554661noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4464958857904281307.post-32745366025138362322007-07-14T19:25:00.000+02:002007-07-14T20:08:08.261+02:00Crunch session - Part IIWe are now several hours into our weekend-demomaking-hoopla, and things are moving along. IT DOESN'T CRASH ANY MORE! Yay. :) Some optimizing has been done, but content-wise things are still in pieces. Some effects here, some basecode here. Nothing is put together yet, and it will be a long time coming too. Oh, and some other news; Snarling came along and joined in our Xbox360-demo quest as well, Bent S.http://www.blogger.com/profile/08453309224675554661noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4464958857904281307.post-31928290998658526812007-07-14T14:01:00.000+02:002007-07-14T14:24:34.769+02:00Crunch session - Part IWe are back from vacation and decided to have a demomaking "crunch session" (hello EA!) this weekend. Only a few weeks to go before Assembly is upon us and we are, to put it mildly, "a bit behind schedule".It turns out that the CPU of the Xbox360 was slower than expected. A lot slower. It doesn't really have a lot of memory either, so we have to look into ways of getting around that. There were Bent S.http://www.blogger.com/profile/08453309224675554661noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4464958857904281307.post-38843085747926569922007-06-26T18:02:00.000+02:002007-06-27T13:22:17.908+02:00We have a sphere!Another day, another demo-making session. So far we have been focusing on learning about XNA and re-writing things that we already had in OpenGL (re-doing old stuff sure is fun!), but today we actually managed to load an object and show it on screen.Svok is happy with his sphereGasp! Progress! We are still battling with the different formats and exporting from Maya, but as this next picture shows;Bent S.http://www.blogger.com/profile/08453309224675554661noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4464958857904281307.post-39559268224967504912007-06-22T23:18:00.000+02:002007-06-22T23:27:40.852+02:00Picking a styleSo the coding has begun, and while Kmk and Svok are focusing on getting a decent framework up and running (you know, the boring stuff :), me and Am are able to look into the fun part - pick a musical and visual style for the demo.Am has a really unique and fantastic visual style, and the whole team really wants to "tap into" that creative energy to bring something new to our "look department" (ifBent S.http://www.blogger.com/profile/08453309224675554661noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4464958857904281307.post-52327945423566564812007-06-19T19:47:00.000+02:002007-06-22T23:28:23.619+02:00..and so it begins!Update: now you can add your comments without being registered - what a crappy default setting that was. :)Yep yep. So we are making our first Xbox360 demo ever. It will hopefully be entered into the demo competition at Assembly (Summer) 2007, but time will tell. :)So - who are "we" you might ask? Well, we don't really have a name yet, but the crew consist of the following people:Svok / Portal Bent S.http://www.blogger.com/profile/08453309224675554661noreply@blogger.com0
